Sukrutham - 1994
(The Virtue)
Ravishankar is a terminally ill journalist, returns to his village to die, enjoining his young wife to remarry. However, he is miraculously cured by a doctor who practices an unconventional type of 'holistic' therapy. But once he returns to his life, he finds himself as an alien there. He has to contend with his wife's growing friendship with his best friend, Rajendran. His family in the village is also dismayed by his recovery. Finally he decides to kill himself.

The happy marriage between Rajiv and Vijayalakshmi slowly turns bitter while their child is about five years old. Little things get blown out of proportions and a certain coldness and aloofness set in, driving a wedge in their relationship. Meddling parents aggravate matters. Finally they decide to part ways.
Though divorced, they continue to be on talking terms, and during one such call Vijayalakshmi tells Rajeev that she is getting married again, succumbing to pressure from home. Both then start thinking about what went wrong, about how their marriage could have been saved, about whether the divorce was necessary at all.
