Theerthadanam - 2000
(The Pilgrimage)

Based on M T Vasudevan Nair's short story 'Vaanaprastham', the film tells the love story of Karunakaran Master and Vinodini. Karunakaran Master, with a poor family background falls in love with Vinodini, his student from a very rich, affluent family, but never had the courage to go and ask her father for his daughter's hand.

After her education Vinodini becomes a teacher in a school. Time and age do not stop them from loving each other, though both had to keep it in their mind. They keep in touch with each other through letters. Karunakaran master had to marry Ammukutty out of compulsion from his family, but this too did not stop him from loving his beloved.

Time passes and in their late fifties, through a letter they decide to meet each other at the Mookambika temple. In the holy town they go down the memory lane. They decide to go to Kudajadri, where master's friend Bhatt mistakes them for husband and wife. That night master suffers from a chest pain and becomes unconscious. He starts calling his wife Ammu Kutty's name and this comes as a big shock for Vinodini.
