Girish Kasaravalli
Presently, Girish Kasaravalli stands out to be the only filmmaker in the highly commercialised Kannada film industry to take forward the legacy of Pattabhi Rama Reddy and B V Karanth who started a strong parallel cinema movement, which once was a strong contender to Malayalam and Bengali cinema. A gold medallist from the Pune Film Institute, Kasaravalli made his first film Ghata Shradha in 1977, which won him the National award for best film.
