Radha, born and brought up in a joint family, refuses to marry anyone other than his cousin, Kuttan, who was her playmate since childhood. Radha's mother and family oppose that relationship due to the trace of insanity in his family. Eventually the two get married and a child is born to them, Appu. But an accident upsets Kuttan's mental balance. After many attempts, the family deserts him on the seashore of Kanyakumari after performing certain rite. This upsets Appu and his life is never the same again.
