The protagonist, Vasudeva Chakyar is a Koodiyattam performer who practices his art in all its traditional purity. Chakyar's life, like that of many practitioners of the traditional art forms, is one of hardship; His life has none of the harmony that pervades his Koodiyattam performances. It is laced with disappointment, financial worry and a thwarted love. Married to Soudamini, he is now a father of two children. But he had for long been in love with Saraswathy who lives with her mother.

For him, his art has been the most defining aspect of his life, the be all and end all of his search for peace, harmony and salvation, proves here that true art, in spite of demeaning decimations, can transcend time and space, language and culture to carry its beauty and essence across. He realise the power of his art.
